The Appraisal District Board of Directors Role in the Property Tax System
An Appraisal District Board of Directors has several different roles within the appraisal district. Two main duties of the board is to hire a Chief Appraiser and oversee the financial obligations of the district. The Directors have no authority to oversee appraised values or appraisal methods and are forbidden from discussing values with the Appraisal District outside of a public meeting. The Chief Appraiser carries out the Appraisal District’s legal duties, hires the staff, appraises property, and oversees the day to day operations of the appraisal office.

Board of Directors Statutory Authority

The board of directors is guided by two primary documents. The Texas State Comptrollers Appraisal District Director’s Manual and the Hood CAD’s Board Policy.
