Why are Homesteads Important

Property taxes can be a significant financial burden for homeowners, but did you know that you may be eligible for a homestead exemption that can help save you money?

Hood CAD is encouraging property owners, who haven’t already taken advantage of this opportunity, to file a homestead exemption application. Homestead exemptions are a valuable way for homeowners to reduce the amount of property taxes they owe in addition to establishing the 10% appraised value cap on your property. These exemptions can apply to a portion of a property’s value, resulting in a lower tax bill.

Mark your calendar and make sure to submit all required documentation before the deadline to avoid any disruptions in your property tax savings. It’s a small effort that can lead to significant financial benefits in the long run.

Filing your homestead exemption application is a proactive step towards reducing your property tax burden. With the changes introduced by Senate Bill 1801, homeowners must be aware of the new confirmation requirements and adhere to the deadlines set. By taking action and staying informed, you can maximize your savings and ensure that you continue to benefit from the homestead exemptions available to you. Homestead Review

The 88th Texas Legislative Regular Session passed Senate Bill 1801 introducing changes that directly impact the homestead exemption process. One of the key provisions mandates that Hood CAD must confirm the eligibility of recipients for residence homestead exemptions at least once every five tax years. As a result homeowners in Hood County could be asked to reapply for the exemption as a way to verify qualifications. If you’re a homeowner who receives an application, it’s crucial to act promptly. Failure to reapply for this important exemption may result in the cancellation of your current homestead exemptions.
